Answers to what we are asked most, grouped by what you are here to do. If yours is not below, email us: a person reads every message.
Getting in touch.
Email support@rollcall.work. That is the fastest route to us today, and it reaches a person rather than a queue. We aim to come back within one business day.
Live chat is not open yet. We would rather say so than put a chat bubble on the page that goes nowhere.
Two things make any problem much quicker to solve if you can include them: what you were trying to do, and roughly when you tried. If something looked wrong on screen, a screenshot settles it faster than a description.
Looking for a job.
Why does my profile need to be complete?
Your profile has to reach 100% before you can appear on an employer's shortlist. That is deliberate. Employers see a small, verified set of people rather than a long list, and a half-finished profile cannot be verified. You can browse and save roles at any time.
Why do I need a CV or a LinkedIn profile to apply?
One or the other is required before an application will submit. It is a filter as much as a formality: it gives whoever reads your application something real to read.
What do the application stages mean?
An application moves through received, screening, first interview, final interview, offer and hired. You see the same stage the employer does. If an application is declined you are told, and where the employer gave a reason you see that too.
Where do saved roles go?
Your dashboard keeps four lists: your current job, active applications, everything you have applied for, and roles you saved. A role sits in exactly one of them. Click a saved row to open the role again, or use the menu on the right to remove it.
Who can see that I applied?
The employer whose role you applied to. A company name and website are withheld from you until you have been shortlisted and the employer has unlocked your details, and the same discretion runs the other way.
Backing someone.
What is a backing?
It is your word on someone. You say why they are worth meeting, in your own writing, and that goes to the employer attached to your name. It is not a form full of ratings, because a rating is not what an employer is short of.
Why is there a minimum length on the write-up?
The main write-up asks for at least 150 characters, and the optional "where they would need support" note asks for at least 100 if you write one at all. Short vouches do not tell an employer anything they could not guess, and this is the part of the form that does the work.
Can I back myself?
No. Self-backing is refused everywhere it could be attempted.
When do I get paid?
A payout is released after the guarantee window has been served, which runs from the candidate's start date. Until then it shows as pending with the date it releases. A pending payout with a future date is the mechanism working, not a stuck payment.
Why do I have to verify my identity?
Because we are paying you. Identity and payout details are handled by Stripe, and we never hold your bank details ourselves. You only do it once.
I started a referral and lost it.
You probably did not. A referral you are part-way through is saved as you type and appears under Drafts on your dashboard, so you can pick it up on any device.
Hiring.
Why is my shortlist not ranked?
A Rollcall shortlist is a set, not a league table. Candidates appear in the order they arrived and carry neutral labels, and the write-up you read about each one is about that person rather than a comparison with the others. We would rather you formed your own view of a small, verified group.
What does unlocking do?
It reveals the candidate's identity and contact details so you can talk to them directly. Before that you see their substance without their name.
When am I invoiced?
On the candidate's start day, on 90-day terms. Nothing is charged when you post a role, and nothing is charged for a shortlist. Those terms are what carry the guarantee: the money is not due until the placement has had time to prove itself.
What do the team seats mean?
Admin can do everything, including managing other admins. HR can do everything an admin can except remove or demote an admin. Finance sees billing and invoices only, with no candidate access. Manager creates and runs their own roles and can invite people to them. Member sees only the roles they were invited to.
Why can I not see a candidate's tenure?
Tenure is drawn from work history the candidate has entered. Where they have not entered it yet, the space is left honestly blank rather than filled with a guess.
Your account.
Can I be both a candidate and a backer?
Yes, and many people are. If you joined to back someone and later want to apply for roles yourself, your dashboard offers to turn applicant mode on. Nothing is lost either way.
How do I change what Rollcall emails me?
Settings, then Notifications. Each toggle maps to a real kind of message, so turning one off genuinely stops it.
Something looked stale or out of date.
Try a hard refresh first. If it persists, email us with roughly when you saw it, which is usually enough for us to find it in the logs.
Privacy and your data.
The full detail is in the privacy policy, and the terms set out the commercial side. Three points people ask about most often:
- We do not score, rank or grade candidates, and no hiring decision is made automatically. Rollcall verifies people and makes introductions. The decision is the employer's.
- Nothing about you is shared without your agreement. Consent is how the platform is built, not a setting bolted onto it.
- You can ask us what we hold, and ask us to correct or delete it. The privacy policy explains how, and who to write to.
If your question is about your own data specifically, email support@rollcall.work and say so in the subject line, so it reaches the right person quickly.
